This April, give military children the gift of comfort and connection. Operation Storybook supports their resilience through the power of storytelling—because every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and understood.

The Bond Between Military Children & Their Pets Matters

Military children face unique challenges—frequent moves, long separations, and uncertainty. Pets provide comfort, consistency, and emotional support through it all. That’s why Dogs on Deployment is committed to helping military families stay together, pets included.

For Joseph, a military child, his rabbit, Grogu, has always been more than a pet—she’s a trusted companion through every transition. But when their family received a sudden PCS order from Germany back stateside, military relocation policies left Grogu behind. The U.S. military’s Pet PCS Reimbursement Policy only covers dogs and cats, leaving families like Joseph’s to navigate difficult choices when financial constraints make moving with their beloved pets nearly impossible.

With the help of Dogs on Deployment’s Pet PCS Program, and the generosity of our supporters, we helped reunite Grogu with Joseph—restoring a vital source of stability and emotional support in his life. Like Grogu provided comfort for Joseph, stories like Sometimes Love remind military children that love stays with them no matter where life takes them.

Operation Storybook is an extension of this mission—recognizing the important role pets play in the mental well-being of military children. Through the power of storytelling, we help young heroes feel seen, supported, and connected—no matter where military life takes them.
